Area guide

Living in Coconut Grove

Coconut Grove is one of Miami's oldest neighborhoods, on Biscayne Bay southwest of Brickell. It was settled in the 1870s, before the city itself was incorporated. Its commercial center is the village around Main Highway, Grand Avenue and McFarlane Road, with CocoWalk and the Mayfair area.

The rest of the Grove keeps a dense tree canopy and many single-family homes. South Bayshore Drive follows the water past Kennedy Park, the Dinner Key marinas and Miami City Hall, which occupies the former Pan Am seaplane terminal. Peacock Park and the Barnacle Historic State Park front the bay near the village.

Metrorail serves the Grove at the Coconut Grove and Vizcaya stations along US 1, and a free trolley runs into the village. Zoning keeps most new buildings low-rise or mid-rise. The current pipeline mixes small boutique condos near the village with a few taller buildings on South Bayshore Drive and on Grove Isle.
